This week we have the company of Dário Pequeno Paraíso, a freelance photographer and videographer. We have been busy with visits and interviews in every fishing community where we work to produce a small documentary about small-scale fisheries in Principe and our project. We look forward to seeing the final images! Meanwhile, check Dário's website here: https://www.dariopequenoparaiso.com/.

A few months before the end of the Darwin Initiative-funded Omali Vida Nón project, it's time to start planning our next steps. Thanks to a new project funded by the Blue Action Fund, we'll expand several of our activities in Príncipe and also in São Tomé! On the 21st and 22nd of November, we had our first planning meeting with partners Marapa, Oikos, Fauna & Flora International, Fundação Principe Trust and University of Exeter. There will be lots of news in the coming months!
Thanks to the donation of equipment by MarineTraffic (https://www.marinetraffic.com/) to our project, the Fisheries Department in São Tomé now has an AIS system ("Automatic Identification System"). Operating since August, AIS is a monitoring system used to identify and locate vessels by means of electronic data exchange with other ships and stations. The Fisheries Department will now be able to monitor the movement of vessels and, for example, detect the entry of illegal vessels into their waters.
During a trip to Guinea Bissau, it was a pleasure to talk about our project and discuss our results and activities. On Saturday, we gave a presentation to the students of the fourth year of the course of Sciences of the Sea and Environment, in the University Lusófona in Bissau. Thank you very much to all the students for your interest and several questions! Thank you for the invitation, Rui Sá!
