Thanks to the donation of equipment by MarineTraffic (https://www.marinetraffic.com/) to our project, the Fisheries Department in São Tomé now has an AIS system ("Automatic Identification System"). Operating since August, AIS is a monitoring system used to identify and locate vessels by means of electronic data exchange with other ships and stations. The Fisheries Department will now be able to monitor the movement of vessels and, for example, detect the entry of illegal vessels into their waters.
