During February and March, the project "Omali Vida Nón" had several teams working across the island. A fantastic enumerator team interviewed 880 adults in a total of 6 coastal fishing communities plus 5 rural island communities. This information will be essential for better understanding the social conditions of the several communities and their dependence on natural resources, as well as monitoring the impact of our project. Sharing lessons from another Darwin Initiative project in the Republic of Congo, Kristian Metcalfe came to visit us and start the mapping of artisanal fishing areas using 30 GPS tracking devices. The fishers were very interested in participating and we even had to organize a lottery in one of the communities as everyone wanted to join in! We look forward to seeing the first results!
